Ewan McGregor and his actor pal Charley Boorman have taken time out of their epic motorcycle journey to visit a United Nation Children's Fund charity project in Ethiopia.
The pair is travelling the length of the planet on motorcycles, starting at John O'Groats in Scotland and ending at Cape Town, South Africa.
Last Friday, McGregor and Boorman parked their bikes to meet the residents of Zalambasa, where many people have lost limbs through dangerous landmine explosions.
McGregor says, ''We're here in Zalambasa and we've been looking at landmine issues today with UNICEF. It's been just extraordinary to meet kids who've lost legs and had horrible accidents with landmines, and it's been incredible. The kids are just great.
"UNICEF are doing amazing things here. They're helping these groups of kids to be mine aware, and using drama and workshops to teach children in all of the schools in the area to be aware of mines and what to do if they find one, and if somebody's hurt, not to rush in - all of the essential things that kids need to know." Former Backstreet Boys star Kevin Richardson and his wife Kristin had an Independence Day to remember on Wednesday - they spent it as first-time parents. The pop star, 35, became a dad early on Tuesday when his wife gave birth to baby boy Mason.
In a posting on his MySpace page, the proud new father writes, "We are officially parents. At 4:56 a.m. Tuesday morning, our son Mason made his entrance into the world. He is a healthy 8lbs. 2 ounces/20.5 inches long and has a full head of dark hair. He and Kristin are perfect and I am a new man. Thank you for your positive vibes and prayers."
Richardson and his wife, 36, have been married for seven years. They met when they were both working at the Disney-MGM Studios theme park in Orlando, Florida. |
